The Melbourne Marathon has been held every year since 1978, and has been owned and managed by IMG, the world’s premier sports, entertainment and media company, since 2006.
For the third consecutive year, all courses will finish with a lap on the hallowed turf of the MCG. Start times have been staggered to ensure that participants enjoy the best possible race day experience.
7.00am St.George Melbourne Marathon (42.195km)
7.30am The Coffee Club 10km
8.00am Melbourne Half Marathon (21.1km)
10.30am ASICS 5km Run
10.45am ASICS 5km Walk
The courses take in some of Melbourne’s most famous landmarks, including Federation Square, the Victorian Arts Centre, St Kilda Road, the Tan, the Shrine, Albert Park Lake and Beaconsfield Parade.
Speaking at today’s event launch, Australia’s marathon legend Rob de Castella said, “To finish any marathon is special –it’s a celebration of personal triumph, regardless of your finishing time or place. But the Melbourne Marathon finish is special. No other city marathon in the world has a finish like this one, with a lap of the great MCG.
“Normally reserved for our sporting legends, every Melbourne Marathon finisher will follow in the footsteps of our 1956 Olympic and 2006 Commonwealth Games heroes. The most significant thing about this year will be the memory of the great Kerryn McCann.
